Introduction

The text in the programme booklet of the Carl von Ossietzky University read:
“90 years ago, the National Socialists took the publicist Carl von Ossietzky to the Esterwegen concentration camp - less than 50 kilometres from Oldenburg - and tortured him for two years; shortly afterwards he died as a result of his prison conditions. As an opponent of Hitler's party, Ossietzky had turned against its contempt for democracy, its national, “völkisch” thinking and its justification of violence as a political tool. Since German reunification, this attitude, which Ossietzky opposed, has once again become widespread in Germany, along with an increasing number of acts of murderous violence. In its propaganda, the political right is echoing the language and content of the National Socialists. The speech piece Deutsche Repetition combines quotes from AfD politicians with almost identical statements from Hitler, Goebbels, Himmler ...”

The piece combines a total of 26 double quotations (the short version eleven). These are spoken from different directions simultaneously or overlapping one after the other by speakers standing around the audience. The volume and speaking speeds change.
The score is accompanied by an extensive list of sources and some background information on the characters.
